Taking the most-used action out of the bank

buy.cryptopay.me sold crypto for euros and did nothing else — no account, no balance, no history. I pitched it to our CEO as an experiment and built it with two engineers in one month.

Situation

The most-used thing in our crypto bank was buying crypto, and it sat behind account setup, onboarding and KYC — up to twelve minutes to a purchase.

Task

Cut the time to conversion, and find out how self-sufficient a product made of a single function would turn out to be.

Action

I kept one job — fiat to crypto and back — and cut accounts, balances, history and our own KYC, dropping in the newly launched SumSub widget.

Result

Time to conversion dropped threefold against a main-product journey of up to twelve minutes, and it became a new acquisition channel.

The company decided to discontinue the whole B2C product in late 2020. Even so, I gained a unique experience of owning and managing the product and tracking metrics.
